GP3 walk round
Discussion
Not a bad vid of the GP3 at Pebble Beach. What's interesting is a first glimpse of the digi-dash. I'm still not sure and dying to see it with the camo off.

I’ll still wait until it is fully released before making a call. Digital dash has a crappy analogue Rev counter on the left that looks like it came from a Rover Metro. Interestingly the top part of the boot is red suggesting the whole roof will be red - might be a bit too much with the dark blue body.
Not sure how much longer they can milk this fekker without showing it fully - I’m getting bored...

Are those wheel arches seriously going to be on the production car??
It’s an ugly car to begin with(although admittedly in the right colours it doesn’t look too bad)
But fking hell-max power wheel arches-
Next thing will be lambo doors on it!
You ever bought or intend to buy an F56? It’s an ugly car to begin with(although admittedly in the right colours it doesn’t look too bad)

No I haven’t bought or intend to buy an F56.
Is this thread only for people that have bought one or intend to buy one?
I don't think anyone's suggested that yet, merely to make the point you're probably not who this products aimed at.Is this thread only for people that have bought one or intend to buy one?
Whilst the exterior styling is some what "Marmite" the performance and drive dynamics is what it's all about, having driven JCW's both manual and auto I really don't think it supposedly being auto only will take anything away from the experience.

Being an auto/PDK/SMG will ALWAYS take something away from the experience ie driver involvement and interaction. Whilst I doubt this will go the same way as the Porsche GT3/RS discussion ie +30 pages as the Mini forum is not that busy. However more electronic aids takes away the interaction and control. Cars are increasingly like Playstation games with electronic steering, PDK, warnings for cars L, R and rear, acrive suspension. auto lights and wipers and the enjoyment of driving is slipping away to allow morons to be safe.Whilst the exterior styling is some what "Marmite" the performance and drive dynamics is what it's all about, having driven JCW's both manual and auto I really don't think it supposedly being auto only will take anything away from the experience.
I bought a GP because they were simple cars with few electric gizmos and considered it a driver's car (despite the supercharger). As long as they keep a manual I will be interested.

I agree with the above.
A manual gearbox connects the driver to a car and the driving experience in a way that an auto / flappy paddle never can. This may be considered personal taste / opinion, but for anyone that really enjoys the sensation and physicallity of having to actually 'drive' a car, a manual is the better and more connected of the two.
Pressing a button / pulling a paddle or leaving in full auto will be faster, but is that actually 'better'? Rhetorical question - the answer is no
I test drove a Cayman GTS flappy paddle a while back thinking I might quite like it, but the detatched nature of the auto box sitting 'between' me and the car made me realise that I'd be very bored by that very quickly. I'm glad I experienced that again though because now I know for me personally, a sports car has to be manual.
Sure, you can go faster with an auto DSG with gears being plucked seemlessly and furiously from the ether, but you lose so much more from the overall driving experience.
Jeez, I may as well copy and paste this into one of the threads over there on the Porsche forum
I'm 100% sure the new GPi$$ 3 will go like stink and be faster accelerating than if it were a manual, but it's criminal to not offer it with a manual option. Even moreso than the inclusion of the flappy external addenda.

Very good write up here on Drive Tribe...

Making a very strong case to keep the Challenge. There probably won't be a chance of test driving one before you commit (like the Challenge which is why I didn't buy straight away) Do I bail and get me monkey back?
