The other half has not long purchased a used 2016 Mini Cooper. It has the satnav but, working on the basis of other cars I've had, I assume the traffic info service has expired, as the navigation works but just doesn't reflect road traffic conditions.

I can't seem to find any info on how I'd get this enabled. It'll probably be expensive but would like to know!

Their is no subscription for the pre lci media xl & visual boost sat nav traffic isnt that advanced it uses the tp traffic information to display it on the map I've only seen it display serious traffic (radio broadcast & relies heavily on this being updated) it does work but it's no where near as good as Google maps Waze or TomTom traffic

Thanks - I wasn't expecting that. I'd assumed it was like my Mercedes which came with 3 years traffic subscription.

I'll check she has enabled the traffic option but it sounds like it won't be much cop anyway and might be time to buy her a phone mount!

I don't know about on these cars but having used it on several phone/nav platforms now I have a few observations that you probably already know anyway.

1. It only does anything if you have a route programed in.

2. It only then makes itself evident if there is an issue ahead.

3. Some systems you literally can't see any evidence of if the above aren't true.

Pretty obvious I know & not being sucky-eggy, just in case it helps.

Cheers both. Will have a look. Not found a built in system which beats Google Maps yet but I do prefer using the in-car screen.

The media Xl nav while functional it just felt a bit old I'm now using a clio with r link & TomTom live the traffic and speed camera alerts are excellent unfortunately the TomTom application could do with a facelift
