Hi all

The wife has an R57 Cooper S convertible and it seems the internal heater/air con fans don’t work all the time. It has climate control and when you adjust the temperature or fan speed the fans just trickle over at a very slow speed and don’t speed up. It’s the same in auto or manual mode.

It does work sometimes though and we’ve had someone look at it and they suspect it needs a new climate control panel to the tune of £650 but with no guarantee that it is that!

I’ve read about the resistor thing under the dash that often goes and does this.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and what the fix was?

Cheers

Bit of a long shot.

Wife’s air con was a bit asthmatic, in her BMW (I think it is the same unit fitted in Minis)

Turned out it was incorrectly set to winter mode (they have a setting in the menus), solved her issue.

Is the battery in good health? This can cause similar issues.

Maybe be not. The start/stop hasn’t worked for about a year which I think is down to the battery.

The fan was a mere whisper or hurricane in my girlfriend's Cooper S, looked into the resistor and the blower but the battery had 9% capacity after 9 years. Halfords don't fit batteries on these anymore either.

So I had the air con re-gassed earlier and they noticed the fans being weak. They checked the cabin filter which was filthy and suggested that it could be the issue. They put a new one in and so far so good.

We do sometimes get the mini on a ramp warning that seems to coincide with the fans not working well so we’ll have to see if that happens again.

Glad I didn’t pay out £650 for a new unit in the dash at the moment!
