I have retro-fitted the Chrono pack to my car as a trial to see if I prefer it & have decided to keep it.

The unfortunate thing is that both set-ups use different warning lights for different purposes so that some things are no longer displayed or are displayed incorrectly.

I gather this can be corrected using an Autologic terminal & have found someone in my area who (according to their website) can code etc Minis & BMW so hopefully they can sort it for me.

My questions are has anyone any experience of retro-fitting options & recoding, are my assumptions correct & does anyone have an idea of cost if they have had things coded before?

Did you go to your guy and get this done ? I have found a chrono pack with virtually the same mileage as my car but as you say the warning lights etc have gone silly smile

I had no issue with mileage, as soon as the car is running the mileage changes to the correct stored mileage.

I have tried several people who claim it is possible & all were unsuccessful with several different systems.

However MANY of the warning lights (including several required for the MOT) then did completely different things or didn't work at all.

The last one told me that what you need to do is to have the 52 pin surface mounted chip in the main display swapped over from the old display to the new one, which isn't going to happen as it is exceedingly likely that both will be stuffed in the process & then I would be in an even worse place, so I just went back to original.

I just fitted the twin column dials to my car, left the central speedo as is (the gauges are bobbins anyway and I have an ultragauge). They were plug and play (facelift dials, facelift car), but the lights don’t match up.

As I understand it, all the coding issues come from the central unit, the column gauges are dumb - I *think* there is an option to enable dual gauges in NCSexpert which will fix the lights, but I’ve not had the balls to try it yet. If I can’t get it to work will probably end up going back to single dial but it’s really annoying, I hate not having a speedo in my line of sight…

In the end, I decided that as I am an electronic engineer, I could make it work.

The end game was to completely dismantle both sets after seeing which lights were where & which ones needed moving & which indicator light icons needed shifting.

I then de-soldered the wrong leds & re-soldered the correct coloured leds in place then cut out the icons with a hole punch & glued the correct ones over the correct leds & job's a good 'un.
