Never owned an M car or other high powered beemer with DCT so experience is new to me- just wondered how other owners were finding the implementation of the DCT box in the various mini's

Bought a 2018 Cooper S DCT gearbox although I've had auto's before not had any experience of a DCT box
Only driven car less than 500 miles and with all new to me F56 a lot of tech to take in.
In short time
first impressions are
1) Very smooth change but not yet used in earnest
2) 7th gear is about 35-40 mph/ 1000 revs so at 2k revs an easy cruise between 70-80 mph big improvement on my R56
manual 3000 revs at 75mph
3)Coast function- weird seeing car speed of 60mph with rev counter set on idle- not sure why it needs the double pull on right hand paddle to put car into coast function when in 7th gear. Presume coast function works automatically in other gears when you take foot of accelerator pedal. Rolls a long way without any engine braking.

General press opinion is that it can be slow to shift down when tootling along and want a lower gear for quick acceleration but not put this to test yet..

How are other users finding it?

We’ve had ours (a Cooper S Clubman) with since August last year, and agree with your thoughts. It’s a good ‘box, but can be slightly jerky on pulling away if you’re aggressive with the throttle. It can be reluctant to change down in ‘mid’ mode too, and definitely in ‘green’. In ‘sport’ it’s much better, and that’s the mode I usually use, but I do put the adaptive dampers into comfort not sport. I think that it might adapt to your driving style as well, or perhaps my driving style adapts to the gearbox wink

Ours sounds much better after 6k miles than it did when new, and in manual mode under full throttle the changes are satisfyingly quick, almost harsh smile

Confession time... I assumed that in ‘sport’ with chassis and drivetrain selected it firmed up the suspension (we have adaptive dampers), sharpened the throttle response and gear changes. But, after 10 months (and to be fair, I don’t drive it much) I’ve discovered that that’s not the case... pushing the gear lever to the left puts the transmission into ‘s’ as well silly and that does sharpen the gear changes considerably smile
