Picked up a '63 Cooper SD about six weeks back. It's not my first Mini - I've returned to the fold after a number of years - previously had a One, a Cooper, land lastly a Cooper D.

Love the SD, it's an awesome package.

Came to me with Nexen tyres - two different variants, but axle matched. Front two are brand new.

However, to me, they're just not right - don't feel very stable. Seem to have an okay rep online, but they just don't feel 'right'....especially over 60. Car just didn't feel as planted to the road as it should.

Looking for some tyre ideas - last car, Mercedes SLK 350, I have Avon ZV7's all round. Fast car, and the tyres always felt great....so they're an option along with the ZZ5's.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Go along to tyrereviews.co.uk

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Continental/Spor...

For example here is the page for Cont1 S/C 5, if you look at the tabs there is one for "all test results" that shows the reviews/results from professional magazines etc.

If you select "Tyres by brand" on the right and navigate to your Avon tyres, for instance, you will see they don't feature well.

My SD came new with Dunlop Sport Maxx non runflats and I’ve replaced them like for like I think they are good in all conditions and £100 a corner at my local F1 Autocentre. I’d thoroughly recommend them.

I agree, excellent site. But I find the reviews by the private individuals much more informative and revealing than the tests by the 'professionals'.

The only issue with them is what if they are written by Mr Gray 92 of Swindon driving Nexen ditch-finders thinking he is driving in a "spirited fashion"?
