I’m considering purchasing a Akrapovic sport cat for my 2013 JCW. I understand it needs a remap after fitment. Does ‘remap’ mean plug in computer and turn off the CEL? Or is it a little more advanced and best left to the likes of Lohen?

I’ve got one fitted to my GP2 - you’ll love it.

Two options for you really:
1) Do nothing. Put up with the occasional CEL and carry a Carly adapter or something to clear it - this is what I do.
2) Get Lohen or someone to code the CEL out, either on it’s own or as part of a stage 1 map.

Do it! Had one fitted to my GP2 a couple of weeks back and it makes me smile. A lot.

There is a third option, Akrapovic do an electronics module called the Delete-R, which sorts out the error lights. Not sure if this is still available, I picked one up second hand. Although I think a remap might be on the cards for later this year.

I’d forgotten about the cable! I love how much Akrapovic charge for it conscidering it just ‘turns off the light’ laugh

Glad you’re enjoying the downpipe... 100% extra popping goodness wink

It is lovely Akra quality though. laugh Don't think I'd pay the new price but someone I know was selling.

The noise is hilarious now. Not sure my neighbours appreciate the cold start fire up in the confines of my garage as much as I do. laugh

I like the idea of more pops and bangs! Will there not be any over fueling issues, cat getting too hot etc without a remap?

TBH, the only reason I’ve not re-mapped mine is because I’m trying to keep it as stock as possible to keep the value in the car. Downpipe was just too much to resist.

If I had a JCW rather than a GP2, I’d be doing all the typical stuff, Downpipe, intake, intercooler, manic map, coil-overs. And I’d be getting flames added to the map because I’m an enormous child.

Just purchased one! I’ll keep you updated once installed. Mine is far from standard so a remap will certainly be on the cards.

I'm planning on having one fitted too as part of the Lohen Performance Pack 2. Not booked it in yet as want to get the clutch and Quaife diff done at the same time so will be a bit of a splurge on the wallet.

The Milltek DP is also an option as part of the pack but Akrapovik quality is renowned - it's 100 cell as opposed to the 200 cell Milltek (and a little more expensive of course).

What's it like noise wise on the motorway and general pootling? Asked this already I know elsewhere, but open to all views before I possibly make an expensive mistake. Thanks.

Hard for me to judge... the lack of back seats means even the standard exhaust and road noise are pretty noticeable on the motorway. That said, it’s no worse than standard in that situation.

I’d describe the noise as slightly deeper lower in the rev range, sharper at high revs. With Sport pressed, you now get the odd ‘crack’ during upshifts and a huge dollop more ‘pops’ on the overrun. Perfect thumbup

That’s what I’m looking for!

I've got a pretty stupid question. I'd like to get some bits done to my GP2 at Lohen, I live on the south east coast so it's quite a journey and I wouldn't come back home. Looking on Google Maps their workshop seems pretty out of the way. Is there anything to actually do nearby or do you just sit and wait for a few hours while the work is done?

My trip will involve a 2hr drive, a ferry and then another 2.5hr drive and at least 1 night (likely 2) stay over, so I hope they have a bed in the corner smile

There's a good sized customer lounge with WiFi, TV and lots of sofas, plus free hot and cold drinks. It's a 20-minute walk to Eccleshall, a big village with several pubs, a couple of cafes, barber, big Co-op etc. From there you could get a bus to Stafford (about 20mins I think).

So I had the opportunity to buy one at £550. Unfortunately the vendor now doesn’t have one available and refunded me. Option are Lohan at £730 or I have seen a used Miltek sport cat on eBay in good condition at less than half that. Any opinions on the Miltek sport cat?

When I asked Lohen about the differences between the Akrapovik v Miltek they said the note was a little different and because the Akrapovik had fewer cells in the cat that it should show an improved bhp count but negligible - i.e. up to +3 bhp. Milltek is cheaper of the two. I have neither so only playing back what info I gleaned.

So I went for the Miltek. This choice came down to price. I had the chance to purchase a barley used Miltek at a decent discount.

After a spirited test run I can confirm plenty more pops and bangs. The sound on over run resembles an automatic weapon! It also has a deeper and harsher note when pressing on. Out of sport mode and when driving sensibly there is no droan and no noticeable difference from the stock cat. No CEL light (yet) either.

All in all I’m very happy with it. Airtec intercooler and a stage 2 remap next I think!

Excellent. Stage two is on my to do list too - looking forward to that soon smile
