Has anyone replaced their gear knob (f55) and how easy is it? Mines looking a bit worn and I can source a new one for £49

Dead easy, did mine a week ago - bought a new JCW one on eBay.

Gently prise the Green/Normal/Sport drive mode ring of with your fingers, then unlug it.
Gearknob just needs a good, hard yank upwards in the vertical direction without any twisting.

Remove the old knob/gaiter from the ring and attach the new one.

Then refit and push down hard on new knob to seat it on the stick.

simple 5 min job.

Thank you both for your replies. I have bought a jcw gear knob and gaitor. I’m going to pop round to my local Bmw/Mini specialist and hopefully they will fit it while I waiting for a small amount. I not very confident to do it myself! Looking forward to getting it done I think it will look great the current ones a bit worn.

It really is a DIY job for anyone - don’t pay to get it done. At least try yourself first...

I have had a test run and the sport mode part comes off easily. However the current gaitor seems stapled on? Also I cannot seem to disconnect the wire underneath.

Hi I had it fitted today by a local specialist for a few pennies. I’m really pleased looks the business and matches the jcw steering wheel perfectly. I’d advise anyone looking for a bit of an interior upgrade to go for it if they have the jcw steering wheel.
