Last week in mild weather so above 4 deg C where under that it tends to stay on.

My R56 diesel 2012 start stop would not come on, the car had a battery replaced about 8 months ago, so shouldn't be a battery problem. The car runs for about 6-8 hours a day roughly 100-120m a day so battery should be topped up ok

yesterday it worked ok for about 5 hours, and not today.

I have been told it could be something to do with a brake sensor ( i forget exact wording) but as the car senses pressure low will keep engine working.

What else could it be?

cheers in advance (car booked into an indi friday morning for investigation) (BMW dealership not until 2nd April, or 15th April if I wanted a car!!!!)

Well not impressed, took car in, nearly £80.00 later advised that battery was "low" at about 30% charge. I asked if it was charging ok from the alternator, and they said no codes showing otherwise.

They could have the car for two days to charge it for me, or charge myself.

I plugged it into a "ctek" charger I have over night on a full recond charge, and by 0900 the next morning showing fully charged. I am not impressed that my new battery fitted last year not fully charging. The car runs for several hours a day, I can't see how it does not fully charge.

When at the garage they said it worked ok if fan/radio/wipers/lights were off.....well sadly we require all those things!

hopefully my full charge will sort out the issue. Next time I will charge first...expensive morning out!

I assume it was a like for like battery and it was coded to the car when fitted ?

Mine never worked for 3 or 4 years, i then fitted a new battery and had it coded at work, it still didn't work but when it was serviced the state of charge was 37%, i put mine on a CTEK charge and got the state of charge back up to 100%. It still refused to work, we double checked for fault codes and non were stored, the AC can have an impact so we checked the gas level and it was ok however the AC doesn't cool down enough, the Mini well the S has a 2 stage fan and mine does not work on stage 1, with the AC off and once up to temp stop start now works.

We have had another Mini, again we fitted the battery and after a few weeks that stopped working. We had it in, checked the state of charge, it was a little low, we charged it scanned for codes and the only one present was for a brake sensor (it sits in the servo) we cleared the codes, sent it on its way, ordered a sensor and booked it back in. The code came back, we fitted the sensor, left it running to get up to temp, took it on a run and stop start started working again, we rescanned and no codes were stored.

From memory it was 1/2 hour labour, and around £100 for the part.

Thanks for the reply.....

Yes the Battery replaced was like for like, replaced by main dealer.

The "indi" I took it too was fair, he suggested when I booked it in that it could be the brake sensor, and ordered one should that have been the case. But it was not.

Since then it did not work for a couple of days, then worked yesterday afternoon and today...weird.

( I also charged my battery on a "ctek" charger with a full "recond" from about 1700 last friday night, and when I looked at it at about 1000 on Saturday morning it was fully charged....but that did not start it working on Monday.

Maybe now it has "sorted" it's self? we shall see.

My local BMW dealership couldn't book me in until 15th April !!! so still booked in at this time to see if it resolves

Someone I know has an issue with their Mini.

The car warns that the start stop isn't available when starting and switching the car off. The car gives a battery symbol quite fast when the ignition is on and the car shuts down.

The car always starts first time without hesitation and it's been like this for ages. If it was a battery on the way out I'd have thought it would have gone before now.

I let a Mini indi look over it and he couldn't work out what the fault was. From memory it did show a fault code about the start/stop loop.

It's doing you a favour tbh. Start stop is awful.

Similar on my R57 Cooper S, no warnings on start up and always starts first go. Start stop just doesn't happen. Not terribly bothered though it worked faultlessly on my previous R56 even though I had never replaced the battery. I'll pop mine on a charger this weekend (assuming it isn't p!ssing down) and see if that brings it back to life. If not I may mention it when it goes in for a service.

Finding that it isn't a sign of impending battery failure helps!
