R56 Cooper S head gasket replacement
Discussion
Hi All
New to Mini forum; looks like my R56 Mini Cooper S head gasket is starting to leak pressure into coolant system. Is changing the head gasket on these a realistic DIY proposition? Ii am not a stranger to DIY mechanics to some degree, I have changed head gaskets on TVR 350I before, as an indication. However,I haven't done anything on this modern an engine. Are there any particular difficulties? Appreciate any advice.
Cheers

Hi Steve
Yes it is. Just done it myself last year and I'm not an engineer, but I did have some help when I needed it from my neighbour who is. My garage quoted me about £3k to do it, wkers!
I did need a heap of parts and tools too. Youtube is useful and a Haynes manual. Oh and whatever you do, do NOT close the bonnet if you have disconnected the bonnet cable. I can laugh about it now, but at the time was almost crying.
Gave myself a bad back doing it, so if you're not used to being hunched over the engine, remember to do some stretches or only do it for short periods of time.
Also a good computer reader is useful to wipe all the error codes after you've done the job. I bought one of those Delphi scanners for about £50 off ebay. Invaluable.
