Discussion
Hi Due to what seems to be a rapid onset of arthritis in my left foot (amongst other areas) I fear I need to be looking at a automatic sooner rather than later. I’ve owned bmw and mercedes auto’s before but not a dct/dsg. If any owners of the new mini dct could comment before I try to sort a test drive I’d be grateful. I like diesel (Cooper sd F55 my current car) but it could be the time to go back to petrol.
Thanks
Thanks
I have a MINI Cooper S DCT (2018) and a JCW Auto 6 speed Auto (2015) . Have also had the use of JCW Auto 8 speed for 3 days.
The DCT is definitely the best imho - it is closer to a Manual (well it sort of is a Manual just with a clever pedal-less clutch). Such a shame that not available on the JCW but then the Cooper S is one hell of a drive and certainly less "urgent" than the JCW.
I like both the MINI Autos, although 8 speed seems a bit overkill in a small car to me? Had a couple of manual as my second car recently (GP1 and then GP2) but cant do many miles without my back playing up these days (lower spinal fusion) and so I have had quite a few dual clutch cars, and Autos, since about 2000 and both the MINI Autos are as good as any without that slushy feel of the old days.
And if you are worried about massive increase in fuel consumption going to a petrol don't be - I use the Cooper S as my daily (40 miles across country each way - no motorway ) and I regularly get close to 60mpg and thats averaging 40mph. And if you want it to go it sort of hoists up its skirts and it is off !! :-)

Hi Colinc2 got a manual r56 Cooper s which is geared to give 75mph @ 3000 revs. As torque comes in strongly from 1500 revs though that it could have been given longer gearing. What revs are showing at 70-75 mph with the dct gearbox in top gear- just thinking about next purchase. Thanks
