Hi, a couple of weeks ago I had an accident caused by aquaplaning. I went into the central reservation at roughly 40-50mph. The car (mini cooper 1.5l 3 door 2014) has been deemed as a total loss but as it was being looked at I was told the airbags should have deployed as a sensor in the bonnet had been broken. The investigation has finished and they said sometimes accidents caused by aquaplaning don't always lead to airbags being deployed however id assume that upon any impact at that speed would be enough to deploy them?

This is a pic of my car

There is no question in there for us to answer but I wouldn't expect airbags to go off in a glancing blow type accident like that, airbags are there to protect you in a "head on" accident.

Most G-sensors for airbag deployment are slap bang in the middle of the car normally under the rear seats, don't know about your car though.

they would have gone off if they needed to, sounds like they didn’t need to
