hi all,

just had a service done on my Mini one "baker street" 2012 (diesel)

mechanic said clutch bite is high and may require new one. The bite has been high for a couple of years, and managed ok even by learners (driving school car)

Car has done 140k (so happy so far with the miles it has done considering the abuse the poor clutch gets)

What sort of miles are you getting out of a clutch?

and also what can I expect to pay?........ I have been informed by main dealer in Eastleigh to expect a £2000 bill including the fly wheel !!!! wtf!!!

anyone know if this is much cheaper indi or anywhere in Hants area for when I need to eventually get it done?

The car is depreciating fast owing to it's miles, but it has never let me down, and still looks very clean, so in my eyes a new clutch is cheaper than buying a new car which in my trade losses value very quickly!

cheers for any comments

£2000 is about right from a main dealer we replaced the clutch and flywheel in our last 2010 Cooper s and that was the starting quote from our local main dealer. They came down to £1700 but we got it done at a local bmw specialist for £750 and a good job was done. I’d have thought between £700-£900 was achievable at a good specialist.

Your car has a Dual Mass Flywheel & these are normally replaced at the same time as a clutch as 1 would be unlikely to outlast 2 clutches and this prevents doing it again.

There is VERY LITTLE space in this engine bay & LOTS has to be moved out of the way to get enough space to do this in the engine bay, so it can be easier to remove the engine/gearbox completely to do this job, hence the labour costs.

A full clutch kit & DMF is around £1000 in parts alone, so that is to do the job properly from a main dealer is why the quote is £2k.

An indi might come in at around 2/3 - 3/4 of that by using good quality aftermarket parts & cheaper labour charges.

If you just had the clutch kit replaced without the DMF you could get it done as above for under £1k.

My jcw required a new clutch, quoted £1800 at main dealer, for clutch and dmf, local Indie replaced the clutch alone for less than £500 as the flywheel showed no appreciable wear, and was not noisy in operation, replaced the subframe bush's at the same time whilst out.

Around 1k is what i'd be aiming for if clutch and flywheel are needed, LUK also offer a pack which includes DMF and 3 piece clutch kit on certain models which works out cheaper than a 3 piece and DMF.

Mini usually have offers on clutch kits too, however it still works out slightly more expensive. We also include wheel geo since the subframe needs to come out.

been going around a couple of Mini Indi's, and they ain't much cheaper than main dealer where I live!

£1623 from one and "about £1300 mate"

One of these was more expensive for a service than the main dealer!

I shall have to shop around more !
