Mini Trim Levels
Discussion
My other half has been dithering on ordering a new Mini Cooper S and in the meantime Mini have introduced new trim levels, to avoid buyer confusion
The problem she's got is that to get the options she wants she needs to get the Exclusive trim level, but that comes with leather interior that she doesn't want as she wants to get it re-done in Nappa!
So, does anyone know if it's still possible to spec your own options as before, or is she stuck with the trim levels and Mini's plastic leather?

I "think" you're pretty much stuck with the new base trim levels, for which there are various upgrade options. The problem she's got is that to get the options she wants she needs to get the Exclusive trim level, but that comes with leather interior that she doesn't want as she wants to get it re-done in Nappa!

Thinking that Autocar have nailed the reason for the reduced choice, "The simplified range is also a nod to the fact each individual specification of car must be put through a WLTP emissions test, fewer variants leading to fewer tests and models to homologate."
The base trims (Classic, Sport, Exclusive) can be supplemented by packs, "Comfort and Comfort Plus offer some fairly typical options, including climate control, heated seats and parking sensors, a reversing camera one of the features added for Plus. Navigation and Navigation Plus offer a full suite of infotainment and connectivity features. Safety kit is added trough the Driving Assist Pack."
The trim levels don't seem that prescriptive, what did she want that conflicted with the packs? Or are some packs only available with particular trim levels? (I could use the configurator, but Mini's web designers have fully institutionalized their theme of obfuscation.)

They have centralised an awful lot of stuff in to packs, and the packs arent cheap. For example i think you have to go for Sport spec to get something as simple as anthracite headlining. A central armrest now seems only to be able to got with a £900 comfort pack. The base trims (Classic, Sport, Exclusive) can be supplemented by packs, "Comfort and Comfort Plus offer some fairly typical options, including climate control, heated seats and parking sensors, a reversing camera one of the features added for Plus. Media and Media XL are as ridiculously priced as they always were.
Its another price increase by the back door.

Nail and head, I recently ordered a new family hack (Seat Leon FR ST). 5 model options, 4 Engines and beyond that the option list consisted of what colour would you like and would you like a space saver spare wheel. It’s also why you can’t get a JCW at the moment. Glad we bought my wife’s JCW when we did.
Well after all that she decided to order a new car today with the Exclusive trim level and satellite grey leather.
One thing we're not really sure on though is that on the mini.co.uk website, it states that the Cooper S Exclusive comes with MINI Yours leather sport seats, which is a better quality, softer leather. However, when going through the configurator, only the carbon black leather comes up as being Mini Yours leather lounge - the satellite grey is shown just as leather lounge satellite grey.
So, we're not entirely sure if the satellite grey leather in the Exclusive pack come with the softer Mini Yours leather or the normal leather.
Anyone know for sure?

It feels a little softer than Dakota but nothing like Merino, my R55 has the Punch leather and its softer than that. Ours has the yours steering wheel - effectively a union jack and white stitching. I use Angel Wax heaven for leather as a cleaner and will when i get around to it use Gtechniq leather guard.
Coating wise it will have TAC systems moonlight and the roof i'll try Fabsil on, the TT has Gtechnic i1 on which is very good.
