Hi all,

Eyeing up a new motor with a little bit of practicality and these have appeared on my radar. Seems you can get tidy enough looking examples with 70-100k on the clock for £4,000-£5,000.

I've seen folk mention timing chains & cracked turbo housings but is there anything obvious I should be aware of to look for and/or avoid?
Girlfriend has an older (2004) mono and these seem a bit better screwed together from what I can tell. Struggle to actually go look at any as the closest one of AutoTrader to me is over 200 miles away!

Biggest thing, no rattles on start up, very good history of frequent oil changes, evidence of Fuel pump being changed (if not budget for it) decent tyres and check its mot history. Budget for a decoke too.

That seems to tie in to what I've read. Things like fuel pump, is it worth upgrading or stick with oem? Don't really plan on modding as it'd just be the sensible car, but if I decide to upgrade I imagine for the price of a walbro it'd be worth doing

Just stay with the standard pump, the N14 pump is around £400 from Neo's

Check to make sure the AC works too, the low speed fan fails so if you put the AC on and the engine fan doesn't kick in then its something to budget for. The condensors are weak too.

Go for 16's and non runflats if you can
