Hey folks

Just about to fire the hammer on a 2013 Cooper S convertible. Never owned a Mini before, so any advice on the following.

I intend to service it as soon as I get it.

Any advice on oil grade for the N18 Engine. The car has done 33k, so I will probably do the oil, filter, air filter, pollen and brake fluid. Anyone advise on anything else I should look at. Any links to service intervals and what is required.

Cheers.

I do cabin, oil and plugs every year, I have an itg panel filter, there is no fuel filter.

It’s normally oil and cabin then 2 years later oil, cabin, air, plugs

I use 5w30 shell helix

Cheers Steve.

Some of the searches I am putting in, it appears to be coming up with Castrol Edge 0w30, others 5w 30, so I suspect this is down to preference.

There are usually lots of oils listed, as you say most is preference.

My understanding is:
* 0w30 is thinner in cold climates, so is specced by BMW.
* 5w30 is fine for UK temperatures, possibly better for the engine over the long term.

Is there not one in the fuel tank as there is in its predecessor?

I believe there is but its classed as a non service item, i've not looked into it but i'm not sure if its something that needs the tank dropping down or if its accessed through the cabin.

Thanks lads

Well picked it up today. Pleased by the condition of the car. Previous owner has taken exceptional care of it.
But, and a big but lol.

20 minutes of driving away from the sharks, the radio decided to pop. Felt like an explosion, then cut out. Stopped switched off, then it worked again, worked for a bit, then went tits up again. Same again, worked again, next time it went out, it has stayed out. So no music, and the digital display is gone on it also.

Fun begins now, as taking it back to Arnies tomorrow. It has a 60 day warranty, but have a sneaky suspicion this may not be covered.

Having owned our N18 MCS for 5 years now, I would say the HPFP High Pressure Fuel Pump will go at some stage.

The US have a 10 year warranty on theirs, but oddly nothing more than the standard 3 years here.

As has been said, yearly oil changes.

Fuel pumps on the N18 are £450 from Neo's £700 plus vat from BMW ... I didn't replace the fuel lines to it which adds another £90
