Had lots of intermittent warning messages on my wife's SD last couple of weeks and it's been in a specialist this last week. Tyre Pressure/DSC etc as it only happens first thing in the morning, restart and fault clears and all good. Not the end of the world as all works bar the annoyance of a warning message.

Had a damaged ABS sensor (which we thought was the cause replaced-she had hit a pot hole and damaged the hub which had caused wear on the ABS sensor), but fault is still apparent and at this point, looking to be the DSC unit as fault codes are numerous and are now pointing to the DSC unit needing testing and potential repair (or replacement) as the next thing to investigate.

I was in the garage today with the tech and he was showing me what they have done and the fault codes showing. The Yaw Sensor was giving weird values so before the DSC is taken off and tested I thought that a cheap replacement could be fitted, before incurring more substantial cost (£16 vs £100's plus) as its not back into the garage to look at the DSC for another week or so.

However, having got hold,of a known, working sensor, I can't locate the position of the current one- can anyone tell me where it should sit?

For info, R56 2012, Cooper SD so LCI.

I had seen that the R53's sits under the centre console, and I've also seen that on the R56 it 'may' be under the passenger seat, but I just wanted to be sure before I start ripping out the interior..

Just for context, the fault codes pointed to a faulty BCM, a new one was bought ( a mere £380 from BMW) only to realise there was no change and that it can't be returned so I am looking at mitigating further cost by ticking through issues that i can before spending another thousand plus on a £6k car..

Thanks,

J

I’m fairly sure it’s under the drivers seat under the carpet, but possibly under the passenger seat

Have you fully charged the battery? Or does it need chaninging. In my experience loads of these modern faults are down to dodgy battery voltage, not ECUs going wrong

Yes, first thing we did was check the battery and replace it, coded as a replacement in terms of size and A/H.

It was my first thought and I hoped it to be an easy fix, sadly not the case..

Just a quick update in case anyone ever has a similar issue and does a search..

Replaced the Speed/Yaw sensor- it does sit under the drivers seat, but unlike the passenger side, isn't covered by a removalable plastic lid, so I had to trim the carpet slightly to get to it, and the 3 bolts that hold it down.

Read the codes again and they have gone from 18 fault codes to 4, all indicating the rear left ABS sensor- which is surprising as this code hasn't appeared before!

Anyway, I'm hoping that when the new sensor is delivered tomorrow and swapped over it will (fingers crossed) be the end of it..

Did you ever sort this problem? Sounds like problem I’m having with my mini?
