Hello, had my 2011 BMW engined R56 Cooper D for about 2 months. It replaced a Golf R and so far I love it - great handling, genuinely fun, cheap to run - good good good.

BUT

The horn goes off randomly sometimes when i'm driving. Not very often, but when it does it makes me look like a right tit, partly because it scares the life out of my.

Any ideas what the hell it might be?

Also, whilst i'm here - if anyone has links or knowledge of common issues/things you must check on the R56 please let me know.

Thank you,
Rob

I'm guessing from my lack of finding anything on google, and the overwhelming response to this thread, that I have a completely unique issue. Excellent biggrin

Not pressing it by any chance no biggrin but on a serious note I had a car do this before it was wiring behind the airbag in the wheel itself. Happened when turning right

Can't say for certain, as I've never checked on the mini, but horns are are generally live, and sound when an earth is added by pressing the horn button and the steering wheel ring is contacted, so if the horn sounds it would seem to me there is a earth wire grounding randomly, due to split sheathing touching metal etc, need to check the wiring behind the steering column covers and the wheel.

It can be related to the door switch / latch I believe.

Thanks all. Ha da good look at the wiring to check for fraying etc, couldn't see anything but equally it hasn't done it since - so maybe there's a slight break in a connection somewhere which i've accidentally "fixed" for now. smile
