2005 supercharged exhaust options
Discussion
as per title, I have a 2005 supercharged mini, it needs a replacement exhaust, the rear boxes are both shot, it looks to be the original system, so I cannot really complain.
what are the options for a cost effective replacement from the Cat back?
I don't really want anything louder than standard, I do a reasonable amount of motorway miles so again I don't want anything that resonates too much.
Your thoughts appreciated.
or if anyone has a second hand system PM me.
Thanks

It sounds like you have answered your own question then, you only have the option of a standard system as ALL other options are louder no matter what they say in the blurb.I don't really want anything louder than standard,
I'll offer some real world advice.
I replaced the standard exhaust of my 2006 R53 with a Milltek Cat Back system, with the resonator pipe.
I find it to be just right in terms of volume. Can't hear it on the motorway unless you are pushing on and it doesn't drone.
It is a bit louder than standard, but not anti-social or that noticeable unless under real load.
I did a fair bit of research and many people find it too quiet with the resonator pipe, but that is exactly what I wanted.
In summary - if you don't want a standard exhaust but don't want to go too loud with an aftermarket then I can recommend the resonated Milltek system.

Then you will need to tell your insurance company that your car is modified and they COULD refuse to insure you, they COULD add costs to your insurance, but if you don't & ever have the need to claim they WILL get out of paying out under their terms & conditions.
If you don't have a modified car keep it standard for everyone's benefit.
You said you don't want an exhaust louder than standard, so keep it simple & keep it standard.
It will be cheaper than the above mentioned Miltek resonated exhaust and easier to insure.

You can get them in 2 sections from ebay for around £400.
When you go looking don't bother looking at the "aftermarket" performance ones as I guarantee you anything cheaper than this price is going to be a LOT louder.
If you are fitting it yourself don't forget that the middle rubbers are bump-stops not suspension rubbers as in the rubbers should not be hard-up against the exhaust or the mounting or it will reverberate badly & drone at around 3000 rpm.
ETA: By the way that £400 breaks down to £300 for both sections, £50 for both rear mounts £30 for a pair of middle rubbers & £20 for some paste & a few bolts.
Of course you may not need all that depending on how your mounts are.

You are missing the point, if it came from the factory like that it is not a modification, if it didn't it is.
REGARDLESS of what it COULD have had. It COULD have had a full JCW kit, did it? No. It is a modification & whether it is a good idea is not the debate.
IF you Ins.co. finds out you are stuffed & without insurance & possibly getting the full force of the law in front of you, is it worth the 1/1,000,000 chance? No.
I have NOTHING against modifying cars, I have bought/modified/sold 2 BMs & currently am doing an R53 but EVERYTHING on it is documented as it is NOT worth the risk.
Even to the extent that my Ins.Co. does not ask for specifics, just general one-liners about headings such as suspension, brakes etc but they have a full & comprehensive list which I update every time I do anything so there is NO chance that I can get caught out.
Believe me if an Ins.Co. can get out of a big claim by checking the build sheet of a car, they will.
If it didn't leave the factory like that then it is a modification.

Totally agree with this statement! I swapped out standard to a res Milltek and actually, I was really disappointed because it was no louder than standard... so eventually I changed the centre section to a non-res and oh my much better for my needs, pops and bangs aplenty! Still have the res section if you ever needed one separately.I replaced the standard exhaust of my 2006 R53 with a Milltek Cat Back system, with the resonator pipe.

I'm interested in the res pipe if you still have it. My Milltek is non-res but I'm putting a slightly more sports manifold on and I don't want it getting any louder, so I want to put the res pipe in.
