MINI 2017 1.2 One 3dr Clutch and Flywheel DAMAGED!
Discussion
Min One 2017 Manual Clutch and Flywheel DAMAGED!
Car bought from New from Coopers Thame Ditton in August 2017 and just done 9,000 miles.
Broke down in the early of the morning on the A3.
Towed away to nearest Mini dealership only to be told next day that the car needed a new Flywheel and Clutch that is not under warranty and would cost around £1,800.00 ro repair.
Dealership sent email to Mini to see if they would replace under wanrranty for Goodwill. Mini said NO.
Very disapointed as I read lots of articles about other users experiencing the same issue due to bearings on the clutch not fully releasing the flywheel and clutch.

Is it DAMAGED ?
How very tabloid.
Anyway, it is unfortunate that this damage isn't covered as it could quite easily have been due to the previous owners driving habits. Only way to proceed would be to have it stripped down for inspection at you expense and hope an independent person could prove some manufacturing defect.
It's a pain that obviously you wouldn't expect after 9k, but a clutch can be worn to the pins easily in 9k if driven really badly.

The car was bought from New. So I am the original owner and I can say in no terms was the car driven abnormally.
The flywheel and clutch has been dismantled now and pictures sent by the mini service garage. They are Abnormally worn.
I have uploaded the pictures.

Did you feel it slipping ? Is the car shared ?

Must have slipped some to wear the friction material down.
Can't see how the friction plate could wear without some slip.
Maybe it slipped a bit after each change then engaged fully if the fork/release bearing etc were sticking at the end of travel ?
If it is a known problem, I can only think you need to gather as much anecdotal evidence as possible and send it to BMM. I know you can also read stories in magazines where a manufacturer relents when they get interested in the issue so that 'might' be worth looking at.

That's pretty fooked - and I'm sorry, but there's no way that just died with a bit of a burning smell. That has been wearing and slipping for some time, either through misuse or due to another fault.
I have seen it before on a MINI with a friend who could drive perfectly well, but she rested her foot on the clutch pedal when not in use, rather than on the foot rest.

Heard that said but cannot work out how 'resting' your foot on the clutch pedal can cause slip as it needs some significant pressure to overcome the spring clamping pressure.I have seen it before on a MINI with a friend who could drive perfectly well, but she rested her foot on the clutch pedal when not in use, rather than on the foot rest.
It can damage the release bearing through.
