Mini Handbrake Problem

Has anyone had experience of a Mini handbrake disengaging? My wife's (2016, manual handbrake) Cooper did just that on a slope and, fortunately, slid only a few feet into a stone wall. A guy parked alongside saw the whole thing happen and said it rolled off over 10 minutes after the car was left.

Are you sure the brake disengaged, and not because the brake needs servicing? Maybe it's worn, maybe it just needs adjustment.
