Hi, I'll ask for advice. MINI COOPER S 2003 R53 When I press more than 50% of the gas starts somehow strangely "whistling"
see video: https://streamable.com/e6h7n

Thank you!

Have you ever heard of a supercharger?

If not, you need to sell the car fast.

Of course. but this sound is not normal. it never did. I thought it might have been broken the tube at the cooler, but its not broken

Boost leak?

Pop the flexible boots off and check them for splits.

If you had a boost leak, believe me, you wouldn't be asking about a sound like that, you would be trying to get the car to idle and asking why the car dies at the slightest provocation.

If the sound has changed then there are a couple of possibilities.

Has the car just been serviced? Has the air filter been removed? Has outlet pipe out of the air filter become dislodged?

Any of the above would cause an increase in the sound of the supercharger.

If none of this is true then how many miles has the car done? Has the supercharger ever bee "serviced" and re-oiled?

Don't know what you mean by "crack on the tube".

If you mean the tubes on the intercooler, then no, you haven't, that would give the symptoms of a boost leak & as per my youtube link, no you don't have a boost leak. You could have an opening somewhere before the supercharger where more noise is getting out, and that is a completely different thing as I have said.

So are you saying your supercharger was re-oiled before 5000km? Are you sure? It isn't considered by BMW/Mini to be a service item but the supercharger manufacturer recommends at 100000 miles it is drained, checked & refilled. On the Mini it is a front end off job & takes a long time to do, speaking from experience.

Yes, I am sure. MINI has reached 155 000km.
At 150 000km was changed oil in supercharger

OK, when you said before 5000k I thought you meant before the car reached 5000km, whereas you actually meant 5000km ago.

There is a rush of people getting their SC oil plus associated gaskets done on the R53 Owners Club at the moment. 3,400 members. Most are 80k miles or more. I'm going to get mine done shortly. As you say "Front End Service Mode". Time consuming. And a chance to do the other things that usually need sorting while the front is off like CPS O ring.

Bought mine early last year & had it off the road for several months while I endeavoured to make it exactly what I wanted & did the same then.

Every suspension bush/joint, coilovers, S/C pulley upgrade & re-oil complete with mods to mean it doesn't need to come off next time, CAI, BBTB, BPV, injectors, calipers/pads/discs/hoses & much more, well worth spending the time to get it all done.

Got mine in Oct 2016. Same sort of modifications, but I've done them 'one at time' largely, so I been able to know which mod does what. Listening to Domtab2's originally posted video, IMO that is the SC whine and completely normal. In this YouTube the car has clearly been modified, I'm thinkind a pulley, and has an Orranje Stealth CAI, which I have. Serious whine! What it should sound like.

Suggest Domtab2 has a listen ....... and stops whining.
