The rear pad sensor is adamant the pads need changing lighting up the dash. I keep resetting it but after a couple of days it’s on again. The pads and discs have plenty of like in them. Last weeks MOT agrees.

Can I just install a new wear sensor, and leave it disconnected until the new pads and discs are installed early next year?

I might be wrong, but I think you can just cut the sensor off and it'll be OK. You've nothing to lose, so try it.

So, you just need a new sensor then, simple job, why leave it disconnected?

Will it not just wear through at at increased rate? As the pads are now at a certain thickness?

If you leave it disconnected then its only going to put the light on. Have you physically checked the inside pads as its very difficult to see them when the wheel is on, Either the pads are worn and need replacing or the wire is broken.

That's not how it works.

A free temp fix would be just pull the sensor out of the pad, cut it off and connect the two wires. This will cancel the warning light as the sensor is basically a sacrificial connection, once broken it brings on the light.

Don't cut the cars look though, just the sensor wire.
