I’ve ran a 2003 Cooper lane hustler for a while now - love it and now I’m thinking about buying an early R53 Cooper. Is there any mechanical reason why R81 7-Holes Design Light Alloy Wheel 5.5J x 15 (standard on the Cooper) shouldn’t or couldn’t be fitted to a R53 Cooper S?

The issues that spring to mind are the physical fitment. Will the 15" rims clear the larger brakes/rotors of the S? The S does not have different brakes at that age, so I believe.

I’ll probably lose some grip given the higher output, and the 15" wheels might be a little too light - any thoughts? The progress should be more fluid though, and the ride better. I’m imagining turning in will be sharper, too.

All thoughts gratefully received, thank you.

I’m not 100%, but I think the pepperpot Style alloys do fit the R53.

Brakes are the same across the range at that age (gp excluded), so you'll be fine from a fitment point of view.

Provided they are standard & not been modified to the later (R56) sized discs.

My R53 wearing 15” alloys. Tight, but just enough clearance over the brakes.

Probably rides better as well. Are you on run-flats or non run-flats?
