F56 S Engine Light After Fuel
Discussion
Hi all,
Drove round to Asda on my lunch break. Car was showing 15 miles range so I stuck in a tenner of Asda regular unleaded to get me home to Tesco (I normally fill with Momentum 99)
Starting the car back up I'm immediately met with the check engine light. I ran check control and no faults were listed so I checked the filler cap and refitted it before restarting the car - engine light on again.
I fitted a Racechip Ultimate 2 weeks ago and I've had no issues no matter what fuel has been used - so I don't think its that. The car isn't in limp mode either and its definitely not down on power. I don't have a scan tool handy as I share one with my dad who's on holiday at the moment.
I'm thinking either bad fuel or dodgy filler cap. The car is out of warranty as of last week.
Best option here? I'm thinking I can either:
- Give it a blast to burn through the bad fuel then fill up with my normal Tesco 99 and see if that solves the problem.
- Fill the tank with Tesco 99 with the Asda fuel still in there (currently showing 60 miles range so a few gallons in the tank)
- Disconnect the Racechip (I'd rather not as its a total PITA when the car is warm)
- Disconnect the battery just now and reconnect when I finish work in a few hours to see if it clears the code.
Ideas?

Have regularly had this issue with mine but then mine is a diesel with 90k miles on it so it's just the DPF getting stroppy with me.
I'd recommend the battery option first, then the first option.
If still no dice, I'd recommend disconnecting the racechip - given that this is what Mini would do if you took it in for them to look at it, surely you may as well do it yourself if the first two options haven't cleared the light.
