My 2014 Clubvan has TPMS and I'm about to change the wheels to Rota's and Michelin non run flats.
Do I need to buy new sensors and fit them in if so do the £140 e-bay units fit OK. Otherwise I guess I'll have to get my tyre place to take them out of my old wheels and put them in the new wheels. Have I got this right?

Far as I’m aware on the mini the tpms runs off abs system to detect a flat tyre.
So fitting the new wheels and resetting the system should recalibrate it as once you hit reset it takes 3-4 miles at 30mph plus to reset itself so should in theory recalibrate to the new wheel rolling radius.
All this will mean no sensor valve to change over.
If it does have sensor valves in. get tyre place to remove and refit them but they must go back to where they came from so nsf to nsf as the are coded to the corner of the car they are fitted to

Later mini’s had valve based tpms, I think the change over was from the F series models. So fitting the new wheels and resetting the system should recalibrate it as once you hit reset it takes 3-4 miles at 30mph plus to reset itself so should in theory recalibrate to the new wheel rolling radius.

If its steel bodied valve then its a sensor, if its rubber its a standard valve and works off the abs.
Thank you for that ID tip, I've just checked mine and they are steel body. Do you know if the valve core can be swapped or are they completely bespoke? But generally you are correct metal bolt in valves usually mean sensors.
Main thing is the sensors must go back in the position on the car they came from as are coded to each corner of the car via a slightly different frequency which is programmed into the cars system. So it’s less messing about and time saved if they go back in the same position.
The other bmw system is far easier to deal with.
Off the top of my head the stems are changeable as the sensor either clips on or bolts to the bottom of the valve stem inside the wheel depending on the type of sensor used usually about £10 for a stem depending on where you go

You can buy the valve body from Mini, it comes as the vale, cap, seal and outer shroud. You can swap the wheels about on the early minis, on the later ones they would need recoding some manufactures have self learning sensors so they can be moved about and they relearn there position
