Mini Cooper/s cab
Discussion
Looking at one of these for my wife. Mainly urban short drives. Whilst it would be nice to have the s for the few times I might use it, in reality the extra go is not essential. In terms of reliability/general ease of ownership what do people recommend. Is there a particularly troublesome era or are they all pretty good. I assume the s adds to potential for bills due to the turbo/ supercharger. Any thoughts welcome.
Apologies if not relevant or not helpful (and not the PH answer), but my thoughts would be stick with a Cooper if power isn't essential and save yourselves a bit of cash.
We had use of a (2017) Cooper D for a weekend last year, and despite being the wrong engine for a convertible we really enjoyed it and found it had enough poke to keep us happy.

Hi after having 2 in the family in the past 06 Cooper and 2010 Cooper S l’d go for the s every time. However both cars rattled like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Poor roads obviously partly to blame but wow. Great cars with the roof down but I’d get a hard top every time in our climate.
Thanks for the reply’s. It needs to be convertible as that’s what the wife wants, and with three children we need the back seats. I understand a family trip may not be possible but then I can take the caterham as well! Most of the time it will be wife and kids only. My thinking is that I would like to avoid the most troublesome versions, and if that procludes the s then so be it. If not, even better!
