Creaking rear suspension

Our family Mini One (61 plate) has started to develop a creak from the rear, not sure if it's off or nearside (or even both) but wondered if this is common and if so is there a simple fix that a bodger like me can sort? The car has done 56k. Thanks

Could it be Grandad'd false knee joint?

Joking aside if you give us a few clues as the when/under what circumstances it does it etc, we will stand a better chance.

Cornering in either direction. I reckon a bit of WD40 on the struts will sort it but I'm sure someone will know better.
