Hi all,

My mini failed it’s mot in the emmisions test, as per the attached image.

The tester said to try some cleaner/additive to the fuel tank, but is the solution as simple as this?

It has had a full exhaust replacement within the last 3 or 4 months.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Is it a standard exhaust ? Any exhaust leaks ?

Thanks for the reply, it’s a standard exhaust (recently replaced with parts from eurocarparts), and no leaks.

I haven’t had the car serviced, so am keeping my fingers crossed that a good dose of Redex will help.

Get it serviced. Dirty air filter will cause high co readings.

Thanks for your replies.

Retest completed yesterday with CO emissions down to 0.01 from 1.44%...

The things I changed were the pre-cat O2 sensor which was throwing a fault code (and still is despite clearing it numerous times) and a bottle of redex...

Either way, it’s all sorted now!

Give it an oil/filter/air filter & plug change too as was recommended by others above.

As per the others give it a service (plugs, filters, oil etc) and then take it for a good ol' fashioned Italian tune up!

On my old V70 diesel (1999 and 221k ) always warm it up over a few miles, then blat it on the red line from junction 2 to 1 on the M27....gives it a real "decoke" stacks of st out of the back....straight into the MOT appointment... with a red hot engine.....pass smile

also keep it serviced when required. never let me down in 19 years! ( well apart from the lower wish bone failure last week, and an advisory on a anti roll bar link both replaced including MOT/retest = pass £214 in all for another years motoring for the wifey ...result
