Loss of compression on cylinder 1.
Have been advised it is probably exhaust port or similar gone, and further advised to forget trying to fix an engine with 60k on it.
Presume this is correct way to go about it, where best to get a replacement 1.6 engine block?

Compression test only, or a leak down done too? Had the valves decoked? Be an idea to determine the cause of lack of compression before scrapping the engine, might well have a holed piston, but best to be sure.

This, plus why would you want a new block if it is a cylinder head problem also 60k is nothing nowadays for an engine.

Think of it as an opportuningty and get on the phone to Lohen.
They have a range of new engines in various states of tune, so should have no problem getting your Mini back on the road.

Agree it's worth further investigation. I've had a valve stick and get cracked on a Ford CVH; all it needed was a new value lapping in (plus new gaskets, head bolts, etc.) and was a weekend job. That said, the interior oil passages looked like an old frying pan, so car was sold on soon afterwards.
