M5, 535d, R53 MCS.
Discussion
Hello there,
just thought I would share my newly acquired opinions on my recent purchase of our 2003 MCS. Background is....I recently sold our trusty e39 M5 due to ongoing corrosion issues. Shame really because it was a fantastic steed. So reliable and a such a fantastic M car to live with. So with M5 sold we purchased an E61 535d M Sport. What a machine. Sooo much power and torque for a big van. But I really missed the M5. Nice soulful engine and a lovely manual 6 speed gearbox. Heh ho. Time moves on and anyway if wanted a nice 6 speed manual I could drive my wifes E91 6 speed?
So last week whilst browsing Gumtree I noticed a Mini Coopers S for sale in the Borders of Scotland. It looked really clean but the advert was crap. MCS for sale really clean. Mot November. £1300. Feck it I'll take a wee look as I only stay 2 hours away. So went to see this 2003 MCS. Jeesuz, it wad super clean. FSH, hardly a mark on it. Full heated leather, Chilli pack, heated seats, winter pack, auto wipers, new refurbed 17" alloys and completely standard.
So I bought it there and then. It is absolutely brilliant. I have owned many cars (63) over the years including E30 M3, E36 M3, M5's etc. BUT the R53 MCS is a fantastic piece of kit. All for buttons. I has certainly made me smile again after the sad loss of my M5.

I am pretty much that same as you, I got a M3 Evo in the garage and was starting to lose the love for cars. Bought a MCS R53 as it was cheap and I always wanted one and it is great fun. Brings back the old school memories of driving small little hot hatches.
Mine has some issues though which I am hoping a new manifold will resolve.
Great little fun cars which do not need 1000bhp to be fun
