Uh oh...clutch pedal seized solid while driving
Discussion
The car is a 2003 cooper bought at auction..
I suspect it is for the scrap heap as to be honest it would fail its upcoming MOT in 3 months due to suspension issues and the airbag light keeps coming on too..
Anyway, on the off chance their might be an easy fix to keep her going until then here is the situation.
Ever since buying the car , the clutch has been a bit noisy, I suspected the release bearing is the culprit but it didn't affect the function so In the true spirit of bangernomics I just left it.
A few weeks ago, the clutch pedal just sank to the floor but after parking up for half an hour it sorted itself out. Then today I could feel that there was some 'juddering' when pulling away from a stand still it felt like the engine was running a bit lumpy , it quickly seemed to get worse and then seemed like to wanted to stall when I came to a stop. I pulled away, changed into 2nd and then the clutch pedal became rock solid and that was it, just stuck in 2nd gear. I managed to get the car off the road but I have abandoned it for now.
So..where should I spray the wd40 to get it back on the road?
Or is it, as I suspect .a scrap job?

It sounds like the one we have just done at work, clutch springs failed and it allows the selector to slip and jam the whole thing up. Clutch kits is quite cheap but its around 8 hours work, we had to change the slave cylinder, gearbox oil, selector guide and it was around £640. It really needed the selector too but that would have pushed the repair price up a little too much.
Yeah, those sorts of numbers were what I was afraid of.
The car has 140k on it too, so I think it has reached the end of its journey..the divers window stopped working about a month ago too , oh and the alarm tends to go off if you leave the car locked, and the selector on the heater only allows you to heat the screen, and the front speakers are blown , and it needs suspension ..the engine is actually still good though!
Thanks

Hate to disappoint you, but a miracle won't get it working, only replacement of the clutch & slave as above.
Sounds like you also need door seals, a heater matrix, some undisclosed suspension parts and various electrical problems.
All can be fixed, none need to kill the car, if it is not for you/if you can't afford it someone will see it as worthwhile, sell it as a project car, move on & learn that auctions are not for the faint-hearted. Many unscrupulous people sell lemons through the auctions because you "the buyer" can only do minimal checks before buying. Far better for most to buy privately at least where you can give a car a better look over.
