Hi there. My 2016 JCW was booked in Saturday for its first service. I arrived for 10am to be asked " how would you like to pay for the £385.00 first service?". I said "it's on 5 year TLC from new". The MINI dealer said "it's not on TLC".

I explained it is on TLC and the orange "this vehicle is covered by TLC....." stickers are in door shuts and engine bay / boot. But the dealer insisted it wasn't.

Anyway as it was Saturday they couldn't confirm it. So I drove off without the service. I called MINI UK in the afternoon to be told that my car is not registered for TLC.

TLC was included in my JCW when I bought it new. I purchased the car as a 5 week old pre reg with minimal miles. It was effectively brand new with all the options I required and it allowed me to beat the wait times for a build date (this is my 5th new MINI and my 4th FJCW - all of which had TLC on the car or I purchased it as TLC is a no brainer for servicing).

When I was negotiating to buy this car I specifically asked about TLC- the salesman said it has already been registered for TLC hence the Orange stickers. I was happy with that and bought the car.

Does anyone have any advice to help me? Ta.

Something similar happened to my Son, told it was TLC registered and then found out at service time that it wasn't. Supplying dealer bought the car back from him for what he paid, transferred the money into his account and sent someone along to collect the car.

Yes with hindsight md........ but I was told TLC was on and I was pointed to the stickers by the employee of the dealer.

Have you tried checking yourself ?

https://www.mini-service.co.uk/service_packs?gclid...

I've had it sometimes where its not been registered and only the supplying dealer can see it. Check to see if you invoice or if you have it sales adverts states it.

You used to be able to add the pack providing it was added before the 1st service was carried out, give the supplying dealer a call and see what they say, if its been missed off they should be able to add it for you, just don't get it serviced until its confirmed.

Thanks. I checked the online link on Saturday.... and it shows no TLC.

MINI UK have registered my "complaint" and I'm awaiting their response.

I've a feeling I've been duped by the salesman..... who has since left the dealership.

Either way I asked for TLC to which I was told it has it ..... and then I was pointed to the TLC stickers.

Surely the dealer is responsible? And I hope this doesn't turn into a battle / small claims court.

It might be difficult to prove what the salesman said, but if it has stickers then it's a bit more difficult for them to get out of it. I'm guessing they will add tlc on for you.

If I was buying that car, was told it had TLC by the salesman, and I saw those stickers then I'd believe that it is covered by TLC. Am I right in thinking that these days when you buy TLC you don't get the TLC vouchers given to you as used to be the case - only the MINI dealer can tell you whether or not the 'computer says no'.

I think you have a strong case, maybe you should talk to your local Trading Standards people if you get no joy from the dealer.

Thanks guys. It appears I did have a good case. This happened earlier:
So. After many phone calls and emails to MINI UK I've just received a happy call. MINI UK is honouring the 5 year TLC......but as the car is older than 1 year they cannot add the TLC retrospectively so MINI UK is providing full servicing and requirements to the exact same cover as TLC.... Including x1 major and x2 minor services. This equates to full service history for my JCW and free servicing for x5 years.
Great job MINI UK....... terrible service and total lack of any help / fix / communication from my local franchised MINI dealer.
And I will vote with my feet.
Thanks for all advice and comments above.

I think Mini UK have done the right thing on this. It's a shame the supplying dealer didn't step up and correct the situation accordingly before BMW had to.

That's a good result, i know BMW would always add the service pack providing it hadn't been serviced and didn't put a 1 year cap on it.

Now get on and enjoy your Mini, have you posted a thread about it ?

Thanks MrC and Steve. Agreed a decent result from MINI BMW UK but such a shame the dealer let me down (for the last time btw...... I will never set foot in this very large franchise again).
Yes I do enjoy my JCWs. No thread but this is it.....

Nice Mini M12MTR thumbup I've a friend whose moved up from a stage 2 tuned R56 Cooper S to a 300 bhp tuned F56. The evolution between the 2 models is impressive & they're a truly nice car IMO (& that's before the tuning in his).

That does look lovely OP! thumbup

I can't believe how much my F56 Cooper S has got under my skin and I love it. What surprises me is that I've always loved fast/RWD cars in the past...whereas now I have a slow FWD car and I'm still buzzing! driving

I bet the extra shove of the JCW is cracking fun. smile Pleased you got a good result.

That's nice, has it been lowered ? I've been looking at the F56 but automatic, it would make us a 2 mini family.

Thanks guys ^^^^
Yes it's lowered on Eibach springs -30mm. These make such a positive difference..... both drive and looks.
I'm just glad MINI UK did the right thing..... even though the official dealer was terrible!
Yes the FJCW is a riot to drive. It is more fun than my other rides (that have more BHP) if I'm honest.
