I don't have the vocabulary to describe what the MINI design team were trying to achieve with this, to my eye, complete mish-mash of lines and materials. Could anyone with design experience help?

Looks better in the pic than in the flesh. They were stuck with the BMW X1 platform so did the best they could to make it look like a mini. Interior is nice but the outside is a horror. Been looking for one but have resisted so far as its not pretty from any angle.

That’s the “optics pack” which gives it the random glossy black bits on the bumpers.

We have a black on black version and looks great. I like the lights are a little oversized for the car but they have grown on me and add to the mini charm.

That picture you have posted does look a bit mish mash due to the colour combo and shiny black inserts.

It reminds me of the Rover 25 Streetwise. The MINI is trying to meld too many characteristics into one package (executive chrome bits, sporty diffuser bits and rugged black plastic bits).

Hence, to my conservative tastes, it conveys a complete compromised mish/ mash of design elements trying to appeal to different markets.
