ECU remapping - Coupe JCW 2012
Discussion
Hi all new to minis
could really do with some advise on whether a stage 1 or possibly 2 remap is worth the money. I am really interested in upping the output of my JCW. I am considering either of the above has anyone had it done on theirs and did they think the outlay was worth for the power gain. Is there much power gain to be had?
I have looked at Angel tuning, lohen and Celtic anyone has any experience of these companies? None are near me I live down on the south coast in Hampshire. I am happy tp travel as I want the best job possible but is there any good companies near me that know about minis? Any advise welcome and thanks in advance.

Sussex Road and Race (SRR) have a good following apparently and one of the Minitorque forum members uses them a lot apparently who has an R56 Cooper S running about 290bhp - admittedly that car is more than just a Stage 2 tune! SRR are apparently a Manic mapping agent and importantly run successful Mini Challenge race cars which shows they know what they're about.
As for whether you should go for a Stage 1 or 2 map, it depends how you use your car and what your budget is? I have a Stage 2 package as an example on my R56 and the all important "map" isn't cheap and the tuners will charge you a full map cost if you upgrade from a stage 1 to a stage 2 if you try doing it in stages. If you're happy with a Stage 1, then fine. If you want a Stage 2, save up for it and do it in one go, though I'd recommend you use some such as SRR or Lohen who have a rolling road to check the car on when it's done. I know for example that Lohen also have demonstrator cars running the differing stages of tune.
The other warning is that the more bhp you get, the quicker you'll need an uprated clutch

considered having my 12 plate jcw done but im on the original clutch and they dont seem to last at all once remapped i run decat currently so for stage 2 think you just need an intercooler ontop
its the clutch and flywheel that cost more than the rest!
what power does stage 1 and 2 give 240 & 260?

Hi Boycie,
I have a 2011 JCW Coupe. I ordered and fitted the AEM induction kit from Lohen and I'm currently also awaiting a set of Ohlins coilovers. My plan is to go for the Lohen stage 2 performance pack when the kitty recovers. This costs £1,850 and includes the Manic stage 2 map, Airtec intercooler, Akrapovic 100 cell cat downpipe, NGK sparks, engine health check and dyno run.
However, it gets more expensive....
I think it's a given that you will really want a new uprated clutch fitting at the same time (for stage 2) and whilst you are there, a diff. So I've now decided to be good to myself and get the Quaiffe diff and the TTV organic clutch at the same time. There may be a saving on labour doing this - I haven't enquired as yet. This little lot will add quite a bit to the bill and a set (2) of diff bearings are also needed. All the prices are on Lohen's site, but I think including parts & labour it was coming out at ~ £4,700 for my little lot.
It's gotta be a lot of fun though, right?
I have an N14 (rather than N18) engine which from what I've read have more issues than the later N18, which made me question whether a stage 1 tune + diff woul be better (and keep standard clutch) but current view is to go stage 2.
Of course there are other places to get this done, but for ease I was going to go to Lohen.

Thanks for the info I will definitely check out SRR, it seems the stage 2 mist be the way to go but I need to save some more pennies first as I really hadn’t thought it through properly! As for whether you should go for a Stage 1 or 2 map, it depends how you use your car and what your budget is?
