Bluetooth phone connectivity without steering wheel controls

Looking at the purchase of a 2012 Countryman SD. One major deal-breaker is the ability to make/answer calls hands-free.

The car in question has "S6NDA - Hands-free system with Bluetooth", but does not have the multifunction steering wheel option specified. It does have "sports steering wheel", and the chili pack (which i thought included the multifunction steering wheel), but it seems i'm wrong.

So. How do you operate the phone without the steering wheel buttons?
