Lights on rev counter

What propose do the red led wedges on the top end of the rev counter serve
(it's a 06 S cab)

Rev limiter! They don't change as the engine warms up like an E46 M3 does if that's what you mean.

Redline is at 7k on an R53, the red lights above 7k mean bad things
