Hi All,

Anyone have any experience of the electric folding mirror repair kits available on eBay? Are they easy to fit?

Recently a cyclist clipped the drivers side wing mirror on my '57 plate Cooper S convertible. It all appeared fine at first but now I notice that the mirror folds in OK but when I unfold it it gets to where it should normally stop and just sits there clicking.
I'm guessing I'm in need of one of these repair kits?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I used one of those kits recently for my R53. The parts seemed good quality but some were slightly different to the sizes in my mirror. As it happens the fault was resolved by replacing a single part that did fit and some grease. There are various versions of the kit and the parts that wear are the smaller gears rather than the motor can they supply.

I had the clicking when they folded in. This was due to slight wear in the mechanism allowing movement of the central shaft so the motor doesn't know when to shut off. I got round it by touching the mirror which give enough resistance to stop.

Cheers for the info.
I've had a quick look inside the broken mirror and all the small gears driven by the motor seem OK, so I guess the problem is with one of these parts:

I've ordered a set for £15 from eBay, hopefully that'll cure the problem.
Thanks again.

Mine was resolved by replacing one of the small gear parts and adding some fresh grease. The part replaced did not appear to be worn but it did have a small movement which could have led to the gears not quite being engaged so I swapped it out and it worked.

The picture you supplied is the housing for the motor etc and could be causing it also as it is part of the overall mechanism. For me it was wear and tear as the car was a 2004 whereas for you it has been caused by the mirror casing being hit.
