2009-2010 Non S 1.6 petrol R55?
Discussion
Morning,
My wife is toying with the idea of swapping her Jazz (100% reliable over the 4 years and 30,000 miles we've had it) for a Clubman automatic.
She now only does around 6,000 miles per year so there's no point in the diesels and I've read that the Cooper S can be problematic with respect to coking of the engine etc.
There appears to be very little information regarding the 120bhp NA petrol unit.
So, are there any issues I need to be aware of?

We had an 07 Cooper, and no issues with the engine. Not aware of any common issues either.
But check the rear doors on any you look at - they rub together and rust. Peel back the seals on the lower edges of the doors as it can also hide behind there.
My wife loved her Clubman, but after the local dealer took 12 goes to try and fix the rust problem and still couldn't paint it or fix it properly, we sold it

Yes, there are a few 09/59 (S model) cars with 60,000+ on them for around £7500, the N.A. cars are available for not a lot less but with fewer miles..
edit, to be fair she doesn't need the extra power of the S, I was just wondering if the NA engine suffers problems like the turbo unit does.

I have a 2012 "LCI" (facelift) R56 Cooper. I think the changeover was around 2010, which includes a slight upgrade to the N16 1.6 122hp engine.
With a budget of £8k, I'd say you could safely get a later model R55 (my R56 was £8.5k a year ago from a Mini franchise, with a decent spec and 15k on the clock).
I've been quite impressed. It's no ball of fire, but it's quite entertaining - and I was very surprised to get a brim-to-brim measured 54mpg from the last tank of fuel (admittedly while sensibly motorway cruising for work).
