I think a lot of mini owners go for the AP's as they are a cheap way of getting lows. If you want adjustability then you could consider the meister coilovers Tein do a set priced just above the AP's and there are another brand ST that do a basic set and an dampening adjustable set (owned by KW) the AP's by all accounts can be quite soft.

Have you ditched the runflats as they hurt the ride the most ?

I have personally gone for the ditch the runflats and BC coilovers which have properly adjustable damping that doesn't mean dropping the suspension each time you want to adjust it.

Also discovered I'll need adjustable control arms to dial out the increased camber.

You may not need to. I mention this because the r53 has adjustable bottom mounts on the hub end of the lower control arm, worth checking for first as I am not sure if the 56 does also.

BTW Tein coilovers need you to drop the rear suspension to adjust the damping.

Pretty much every coilover will give a better ride than stock, APs especially. I've got Meisters on my R53 wound right down, and the ride is better than our R56 on stock suspension IMO. Stock Mini suspension is ridiculously hard.

If you're lowering by more than say 15mm you'll be better off with adjustable rear arms. The stock adjustment range is very small

I've got AP's with Silver Project top mounts and rear arms (2 sets)

Fine for my commute to work as it's only a few miles, but I find them pretty stiff. Certainly, the rest of my family hate getting in my car lol. I think the weak point in my setup is the top mounts, I'd probably opt for RTM if I was doing it again.
