Recently bought an R53 MCS and generally I'm happy with it. Today I checked the oil and found the dip stick is on its last legs (no problem, cheap and easy to fix) but this made me realise I didn't think I'd seen the oil pressure warning light come on when I switch on the ignition, checked it, and it doesn't. All the other dash lights work fine (switch on when ignition is switched on then go off either after a short period of time or in the case of engine management light and battery light when engine is started) but oil pressure warning doesn't come on.

So where should I start?

Dismantle dash & check for electricians tape/missing bulb etc where it should be, one thing you DO NOT DO is run it until you know why.

Been doing some more googling and YouTubing since posting and it looks like a sealed unit in which bulbs can fail. replacement unit can be picked up second hand cheaply enough it would seem

for completeness the issue was the oil pressure switch - it was always reporting sufficient oil pressure! No issues with the dash
