R56 Sound System Volume keeps turning itself down?

As above really - no matter which source I listen to the system keeps turning down the volume a few notches and then it goes back up again. I have looked at the speed dependant volume settings and this was on 5 and I turned it down to 1 but it still does it - is the amp on the way out?
