Afternoon all.

I've recently bought the wife an 18 month old (65 plate if it matters) Cooper D with XL pack.

Cracking little car so far but i'm struggling with the Sport and Green eco modes.

According to the bloke that sold us it the sport and green modes are simply selected by moving the switch on the centre console left or right.

Having tried this i get nothing at all. Reverting to the manual you go through some "Driving Excellence" or something menu and it goes through and checks all the parameters are right like range, engine temp, outside temp etc. Being a 1.5 Diesel i can only assume that sport mode will allow me to embarrass GTR's when i get it right biggrin

The manual says when sport mode is active "Sport" will be displayed on the console, it isn't. As i said, moving the switch does nothing as far as i can see.

I can get a little dial up that shows me power and torque being generated and i thought i'd got it but then when i move the switch back to Green i get nothing again.

More interested in the economy than sport but i'm concerned something is broken and i need to have it checked out.

The owner before us was a leasing company, got me thinking that for whatever reason they would disable it at the factory by request? Seems like a longshot really.

Anyway, cracking wee thing other than this. All help appreciated!

David.

What you have said should happen is correct. Most obvious in green mode is that the light ring around the ICE should change colour and will illuminate by different amounts to show his "green" you driving is.

The other tell tale is that the cars feels sluggish and unresponsive.

Sounds to me like the switch isn't working. I can't see how you would not be able to tell the difference. For example, my wife's car is the JCW and it feels like a reliant robin in Green mode.

Stick your finger nails under the rim of the switch and pop it up, the wiring for it is only pushed fitted and its quite common if someone's been in there for some reason for the connector not to be refitted properly.

At that age is still under warranty, take it to your local Main Stealer and ask them to check it out ... or better still, get your wife to, if it's her car!!

Yer Yer main stealers send the wife that will show them.......seriously grow up!

Or are "main stealers" and "halfrauds" still cool with the kids these days?

A 2 second check by the OP can fix all his issues in one go or confirm he has a warranty issue, he wouldn't have to take the time to visit the "main speaker" then.

What pack has the car got? If you don't have a Chili then you don't have driving modes unless it was added as an option.
Just to clarify, you can see green, Sport and mid mode dial around the gear lever right?

There is no switch on the console for this function so not sure what you're describing.

As above. The switch is on the base of the gear stick. Is this what you're using?

Yes, the car has a switch that you sway left for sport or right for green.

The car has a chilli pack XL i think so should have them installed and enabled.

Wary that with my ham fistedness i might break it if i try to pop it off and then void any warranty.

Ok, The screen on the infotainment should clearly say, 'sport' or ''green' for a few seconds when you switch.
If this isn't happening then its probably broken so I'd make the call to get it looked at.

It could be that the driving mode information option is deselected. When switching between driving modes a list should appear in the driver display (between the dials in the instrument binnacle)as well as on the control display (main media display).

If the list appears in the driver display and nothing is coming up on the control display then it's likely the option is deselected. Go to 'Settings' then 'Control Display' then 'Driving mode info'. Tick the box and then when you switch the driving mode the graphic will also appear on the control display.

If neither of these is happening, it's broken!

OK, just went out and tried this.

At no time do i get a list of any kind. The 'Driving Mode info' was selected. If i deselect then select it again i get a wee car up that says "MID Mode" standard mini fun or something like that.

When i move the switch on the centre console i get absolutely nothing.

Just to update this, the chap above was bang on.

Current in the MINI dealership and the lady confirmed that the plug is indeed disconnected.

Thanks!

Hello, do you know which wires exactly needed reconnecting?

A few years on perhaps, but Chrysler Ben’s tip just save me a lot of time and hassle. Popped up the selector ring and plug was, sure enough, disconnected!

It's a very common problem and even more now the cars are ageing.

Since I posted this we have continued to own Minis (and 1 7 series) along the way. THey moved to a toggle type switch for the driving modes which does fix the need for a very fragile spade connector.
