Cat D Mini what you think?
Discussion
It sounds too expensive to me for a 3 dr MINI One which has probably had a fair bit of damage to the nearside front. You could get an undamaged one for about that price with a few more miles

I wouldn't touch a Cat D at any price.
What is the attraction of buying one? A lower price than a straight example generally and the reason they are normally lower than a straight one is the fact most people are put off by them. Now it could be that you can get a good one that only had very minor cosmetic damage and has been repaired well, but it is a risk. Perhaps OK if you intend to keep the car long term and run it until uneconomical to keep any longer, but come to sell in a couple of years time or so and it will be a very difficult thing to sell. It is always easier to buy than to sell. Insurance companies do not like them, so it could be more difficult to get a good deal on insurance.
It is a buyers market and there are plenty of good straight cars out there, so why bother with any of the dogs. It may take a little time to find a 'good un' but the wait is well worth it.

I don't mind buying a car with a cat marker on it but only if the damage has been when it's over 10 years old as most cat D motors of that age can get written off for the cost of a 2nd hand bumper and a bit of paint.
But I wouldn't want to buy a nearly new cat D as that would have had extensive damage to get written off at that age so I would steer clear.

I agree with you Vince, I am happy with an accident repaired car (just bought 06 Cooper s for £1700) which has been written off latterly, would not entertain a new £15k car with £15k of damage, a £3k car with £3k damage repaired properly with the right pics etc (as was mine) I have no problem with.
