I've just collected a really rather nice March 2012 Mini Cooper. It's a 15k-mile, local car with some choice options including sports seats, black inlays and chrome rings - but it stops short of the full Chili pack. It has a Boost DAB stereo, with CD and aux-in - but not USB.

I do like the car a lot, but it is taking quite some time to learn how to use the on-board computer and stereo.

The Boost stereo keypad has a phone button, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I presume it's redundant? Seems like a waste, as there even appears to be a microphone in the console above the rear view mirror.

I was also hoping to find the on-board computer for things like MPG. I can navigate to details about service status and some settings, but I can't find the MPG. Is this an option too?

Yes, the on-board computer was an option. It came in the Pepper Pack or higher, and was also available as a separate option.
On the central console, press the MENU button and then use the right hand knob to select Comp. This will show (if you have an OBC) the average consumption, speed, estimated range and current temperature.

What about extended storage (second glove box, net on the passenger side of the central tunnel and a 12V point in the boot)?

Edit: Video selecting the OBC from console. https://youtu.be/UmkIHAvaff4
