Ok, so here is an interesting one.

I am 100% always honest and don't mess about with Insurance, so when I bought my 2005 Mini Cooper with JCW re map & JCW sounds kit, I of course told my insurance company, well I told multiple when applying for a new insurance. When I called BMW MINI to check insurance, they said that because this was done in 2005 by a dealer, this is not classed as a modification - so, what is it? Do I have to declare it with everyone else IF the manufacture does not class this as modified?

I thought it was an interesting topic. My quotes ranged from £10k to £600... where is the sense in that!

Yes you will need to tell them, always be 100% honest as in the event of a claim they will look for any excuse not to pay out.

Chris Knott have given me decent quotes for Minis in the past, Flux is always worth a try as well

I would speak to Adrian Flux. I had the same issue with my old Mini, technically it's modified as it increases the power of the engine (even though it's factory fitted). I spoke at length with Adrian Flux about the changes I'd had done at the dealer and they managed to put me through a Mini specialist which worked out a lot cheaper. Although, now I have an F56 they are working out dearer....go figure!
