My R53 cooper S had to be towed of the track at Snetterton last week. Its showing the fault code P1688 ElectronicThrottle Valve Control 2/3, Air mass Calculation. The car shows the engine management light and goes into limp mode with a terrible miss fire. Ive googled the code and i've found it could be super charger bypass, throttle body, MAP sensor, MAFF sensor or crank shaft pully. I've replace every thing bar the pully which appears to be ok to no avail. Im now wondering if the car needs to be told these new parts have been fitted.
Any help you guys could give would be greatly received as I'm now at the point of pulling my hair out.

Massive thanks in advance.

Been there done that. Made no difference. As soon as the car is taken above 4 thousand revs it throws the engine management again and goes back into limp mode.

Boost/vacuum leak, stuck bypass valve, or crank pulley then.

What mods/mileage/etc?

Lambda sensor? Used to get loads in doing the same when it turned out to be a lambda.

Bypass valve has been replaced. Checked the crank pulley and it looks to be in good condition. Not sure how to check for a boost / vacuum leak though

Bypass valves can get stuck open or closed.

Did you test before fitting, and did you adjust the screw for a better seal?

after several attempts i think I've found the problem. It's the crank shaft pully. I had been told it may be this but failed to see how a pully could cause the issues i was having until tonight when i had the engine running and realised the pully wasn't spinning. So hopefully problem solved.
