The reverse lights are not working on my daughters Mini cooper convertible. The rear parking sensors are also not working so does anyone know if the two faults are connected. I was assuming that the parking sensors are powered up from the reverse lights so maybe replacing gearbox reverse sensor would fix both ? I have checked fuse and thats ok. Any thoughts from the folks who know from experience, cheers.smile

Your on the right track, parking sensors activated by reverse gear switch which also does the light. Is it an early shape mini? If so, was fairly common for the switches to fail

Not sure if its classed as early,'06 cooper convertible ,52k. It isn't mine we bought it for daughter's 21st birthday & she loves it. There are a few jobs however that I want to get sorted though and this is one. Discs & pads too (how cheap are they !!-eurocarparts £17 each and then 15% off ) Thanks for the replythumbup

Had the air box off to check which switch is required as there are 2 listed. Bridged the wire out with paperclip and sure enough reverse lights and a beep !! Result ! So cleaned up and refitted until I get a new one, (the connector was pretty oily so oil must be getting through the sensor). The switch is now working but probably as a result of the oily contacts being cleaned- I'll still be replacing as they're only £6. Putting it in reverse gave a beep for about 5 seconds then went off, the parking sensors still don't work. Listened to all closely and outside o/s sensor not ticking so must be defective & will replace. If 1 sensor is out does that put the others out ? Think I'm getting there !!

Not sure on the Mini system, but if it's the same as the BMW one (which I suspect it probably is) then yes. The working ones will still make a noise when you put your ear to them, the duff one will be silent.

Make sure you buy OEM sensors, bought one for our E61 off ebay and it went duff quickly. No problems with OEM. Also really easy to paint yourself (they come unpainted)

Sensor all sorted, very happy biggrin. Mate gave me a new sensor he had spare from his X5 and although it was a straight sensor not 'L' shape the connection and body was the same so tried it and result, clicked home and worked.
