My Cooper S is using 1L of fully synthetic every 600 miles which seems pretty much par for the course for many. So far I've been using Castrol to top it up which is fairly pricey but was wondering whether the Tesco 5W/30 Fully Synthetic would do the job just as well given the rate at which it's being consumed.

Does anyone have any experience / recommendations?

NB. Using Castrol doesn't bother me that much but wondered whether there's a case of the emperors new cloths going on?

Have you tried using semi synth to see if the oil consumption improves, 600 per liter is a bit more than even BMW say is ok.

LL04 is a long life oil iirc?

If I'm changing the oil every 10k miles is a long life oil necessary or has it got additional properties?

Yes it is Longlife and yes it is still necessary if doing 10k oil changes.

Check out Asda, I'm sure they have that spec for something like £12/14 for 5 litres on a deal at the mo.

If you're using Shell, go to the dealers as it's also Shell and cheaper than the forecourt

If its losing/burning all at that rate any oil will do (not cheap rubbish)
