I have a 2007 cooper with 137,000 on the clock.

2 days ago my EML started flashing, I had an awful misfire - I was less than half a mile from home so drove home (at massive reduced power and misfiring awful). Parked up and the engine stalled, popped the bonnet and the block was smoking it was that hot. Let it cool down for a couple of hours, popped the Coolant and it was empty so after 4l of coolant and the tank still wanting more I looked at the rad - it was leaking like a tap!

Surmised it had over heated due to lack of coolant and bought a new rad, fitted yesterday, all good on that front but still have the awful misfire, engine keeps at normal idle but then will struggle to idle and then go back to idle fine (except the misfire) The EML is still flashing.

It's running in the original coil packs, spark plugs were changed probably 30k ago (OEM plugs) so should have another 60k in them yet.

For the last couple of days it has turned over noticeably more than normal when it starts up too.

Any ideas as to what it could be? There is a little milking in the top of the oil cap - but the rest of the oil looks fine when I look in the fill hole and on the sip stick so hoping the milky oil in the cap is just condensation? There was also condensation cooking from the exhaust pipe

I reckon ur looking at a high pressure fuel pump, which is common, or a leaking injector. Both would explain the longer cranking and misfiring

Thanks for the reply, isn't the hpfp only on the S model?

Warped head?

It's possible if the block got that hot and there was no coolant at all. Compression check would be a good idea.
